Eco Tourism
MEWA has been instrumental in taking up the Village Electrification Program, as a mission, in the Dhamakhali Gram Panchayat near the Sunderbans in Bengal by involving the local people to install Photovoltaic Solar Panels to bring electricity to their households. MEWA encouraged the local Zilla Parishad to set up a Guest House having all modern amenities being enclosed on three sides by rivers amidst its majestic serene beauty, serving as a perfect overnight stop-over to venture into the jungles of the Sunderbans, to run it commercially by these local youths under another civil society body named Joygopalpur Youth Development Centre (JYDC) and also to operate the local Ferry ghats in its bid to create the concept of Eco Tourism first time in the country.
MEWA provides guidance and expertise to a state-of-the-art Project NATURE PARK from the inception days in assistance with the State Govt of West Bengal at Santoshpur in Kolkata, the area is infested with several plants and industries including some big names of International repute belonging to the Beverages Industry which emits huge amount of carbon and other obnoxious pollutants into the air. MEWA has helped in carbon trading in the region through plantations of 127 species of 1 lakh special kind of trees capable of absorbing all the carbon, dust and other pollutants present in the air. The zero-pollution area has also facilitated as many as 120 different species of birds, of which 27 are migrating birds to settle in there and even breed on the other side of the sanctuary, serves as a testament to this fact. The bird-watching balcony, raised on a tower, offers a blissful taste to the project and its visitors. MEWA also ensured the commercial aspect of the project by advising on building a concrete Interpretation Centre on water as a replica of a passenger ship with proper decks on it and a befitting
banquet hall for corporate conferences.
The project NATURE PARK has drawn the attention of a large U.S. company who has lauded the efforts taken and has expressed its commitment for any future assistance.
